The Kareoke Experience.

I went to a restaurant called "Moms" and did Kareoke with about 50 elderly people. I kid you now everyone there was over the age of 55.

It was crazy. I rocked the house though.

Chi Alpha

I went to a college church service last night. It was called Chi Alpha. It's sponsored by Trinity Assembly of God which is a Pentecostal denomination. There wasn't any emotional mumbo jumbo that comes with pentecostal services thank goodness. A former co-worker of mine is the worship leader and he did a great job.
After the service everyone was welcome to use their facilities. It's a large building with a backetball court and a billiard room. I was asked to play basketball and for the 6th time in my entire life I played basketball. No ankle fractures or knee blowouts to mention.
There was also a little area where you can hang out and have a cup of coffee. So I went in there after my basketball game and was suprised to see some people I knew. A fefw other former co-workers were there. I was able to catch up with them and enjoy their company. Somehow I wouned up hanging out with a large group of asian girls. They all go to Fairmont State. I guess they found me entertaining. I can only describe my situation as very much similar to Chris Tucker in Rush Hour II singing kareoke. The nice thing was they were all hot!!!

Before I went to sleep I read some romantic literature by William Woodward. Let's just say I had wierd dreams. Romantic authors are an odd bunch...

HANGIN WITH MATTHEW

Matthew isn't as obnoxious as he was last time he was here. His temper tantrums an constant whining are minimal at best. He likes to be outdoors and has become quite inquisitive. I took him outside this morning and he helped wash my car and my parent's Explorer. I will officially upgrade his presence to "tolerable". That means Matthew is at code green.

POISON IVY UPDATE

It's drying up. Now I look like I have ebola or some type of herpees. I wear pants and long sleeve shirts everywhere I go. I had to work in a long sleeve shirt last night and it got pretty hot. A shower felt good when I got home.

Well, now I gotta go listen to my professor rip the authenticity of biblical scripture. I guess I'll have to school him again.

Animal Problems

Last night my parents took one of our rabbits to the vet because our Lab, Sonny got ahold of it. They wound up having to put the rabbit to sleep. So far Sonny has attacked every species of animal we have on the farm. This only concludes that he will attack one of the alpacas once we officially bring them to the farm. So, we are going to have to get rid of Sonny. Hopefully we can take him to the Lab shelter or a no kill pound. He'll make a good dog for someone but not for us. He can't be trusted around the animals. Heaven forbid he attack a $36,000 Alpaca.

I have to work tonight. I wonder if they want me working with all this poison ivy on me?

Got an "A"

Just wanted officially post that I received an "A" on my Public Administration test. If I can keep an A in the class then I don't have to take the final. I'm off to a good start so far.

POISON IVY!!!

I have poison ivy really bad. I have it all over my legs, arms and around my nose and left eye. I must have gotten it when my dad and I were trecking through the woods the other day. It doesn't itch that much thankfully. I haven't been to the gym because when I work out it spreads. I have been puting lotion in it so I expect the ivy to be gone soon.

Terrorism class
I just got out of my 3 hour terrorism class. The class itself is an act of terrorism. It only meets on Tuesday and you miss one day then you drop one letter grade. I guess attendance is mandatory!!!
So far the class has been about defining terrorism. There are about 10 definitions used right now by various groups and agencies. The UN has been trying to define terrorism for years but every time the suggest a definition, it makes one country or another a terrorist state and no one wants to be labeled a terrorist state.
So far a generic definition of terrorism constitutes the illigitimate use of force to achieve a political objective by targeting innocent people. Sounds good to me....

COMPUTER WOES...
I have been working on a new computer and it has been one headache after another. It's all new technology and the mother board I got isn't what I odered. I have to make some calls and see if they can ship the right one.

Hanging with Seth!!!

Today at church we kicked off our 40 Days of Community campaign. We teamed up with Rick Warren's Saddleback Church and we're doing a 40 Days Of Purpose but it's geared more for the congregation and not the individual.

We had a pot luck lunch after services and played a game to get to know each other better. There's about a hundred people in the congregation and we've grown so fast the it's hard to keep track of whose coming and whose going.

After the lunch Pastor Seth and I got together to film footage that I will be editing for the Sundays during 40 days. The first is a montage of landmarks in Fairmont and we're using this to make everyone comfortable with the idea that Fairmont is their town and it's the community they should be impacting as Christians.

I was finished shooting in time to watch the Browns beat the Packers in Lambeau field. It's the Browns fist win there EVER!!!!

MY IDEA...

I have an idea to make some video sermons. I saw a minister from a church in Michigan do something along the lines of what I want to do, but I want to take it to another level. I have a lot of views and revelations that I would like to share with others but I have no real outlet. So I will take my trusty camera and start writing and filming.

My video sermons will be multiple topics with a central theme running through all of them. Each topic will be anywhere from 7 to 15 minutes. I would like to make the first video an hour. I have the beginning scene already figured out and a few topics I want to address. I think the hardest part will be getting extras and a competant camera person.

Gotta use the creative outlet somehow.

Took my first major test of the semester today. It was in Public Administration. I think I did pretty well on it. I guess I will find out Monday how I did.

Not much going on today. I took the day off from lifting because I'm pretty sore. I rocked it out pretty hard yesterday. I'm gonna sit back and relax and watch some SCIFI channel this evening.

Spanish

I am sorry to say that I will dropping out of Spanish class. My schedule and committments do now allow me to spend the time needed to properly learn and speak the Spanish language. I will have to take the class at a later time....again. I am a bit upset about the whole thing but I know and understand that I need special concentration on Spanish to comprehend it.

OOPS!!!

I went to the weight room at FSU today and I forgot my soap and shower stuff. I have a change of clothes but I'm still a bit ripe. Maybe my professor will cut class early because I stink? Let's just say I'm staying away from everyone.

John Roberts

I didn't go to class today. I played hookie and watched all 7 and a half hours of the John Roberts hearings. This guy is awesome and I think he will bring something to the supreme court that has been missing for a long time.

Of course he was questioned on abortion and right to privacy. I would have to say that at least 5 hours of the hearing was based on trying to figure out where he stood on those issues. What interested me was his views on the legality of the Commerce Clause in relation to the states. I think he answered the questions thoroughly.

I give my endorsement of John Roberts to the Supreme Court.

Common Sense

Today in World Literature we discussed Thomas Paine's "Common Sense". We stuck with the literary use of arguments, but as we discussed, I found that a lot of what Paine argued can be used as a reminder today.

Paine argues that America needs to break away from the mother country Britain. He sites several reasons and the most compelling was the idea of America's uniqueness and identity that binds the colonies. Pain states that America should decide it's fate and not any outside governments or countries. Considering our immigration problem today I think we should be reminded of Paine's words. As more people come here and do not wish to conform to our way of life and language, they are inadvertantly thrusting their own culture and way of life on America. If Paine were alive today I believe he would see this as an enchroachment on American soverignty and be strongly against it.
Paine's also attacks the moderate. This is the person who can't make up their mind and rides the fence on political issues instead of taking a stand. It's important today because a slim percentage of people vote today and even then most cannot make up their minds until the last minute (2004 election ring a bell?). Paine says that their indecision causes the most damage. I believe this to be true. It's a major reason we're in Iraq right now and that New Orleans is under 8 feet of water.

4 Years...

It's been four years since the World Trade Center was destroyed. It seem like a lifetime ago. I just head on the news that the media wants to show the dead bodies in New Orleans. I bring this up because the media didn't want to show dead bodies during 9/11 but now they want to show dead bodies? I don't understand the logic behind that. I guess the media thinks it's alright to show the dead bodies of poor black people but not middle class white people.

Jim was the guest speaker this Sunday. Seth was given a break from speaking. Jim talked about biblical authority and used the scripture of Jesus's temptation in the desert to back it up. I thought Jim was going to go the "Jesus said so" route but he didn't. Instead he argued that Satan used the scriptures to tempt Jesus and that Jesus used the scriptures back instead of using supernatural powers. I think the point that even Satan finds the scriptures authoritative was quite interesting.

I didn't get to watch the Browns nor do I think I will ever get to this season. The sports bar I go to has been closed down. I'm numb right now...

Chris Slatt - The Return!!!

My brother came in to town again to help my dad build the barn. With me being in class and working, I don't get a lot of time to do manual labor on the farm that much anymore. I have been relegated to minor labor practices such as laundry and feeding animals. That is the extent of my duties as of late.

I do believe I will be more of a help when we put up the fences. That shouldn't be a problem. Right now I feel like I just get in the way.

Besides, my brother and my dad need some hang out time anyway. It's been a while since my brother has been in town and I think it would be great for those two to work together.

It's nice having Chris around. Too bad Becca couldn't make it...

Happy Birthday to me!!!

Today is my 31st Birthday.

Quite uneventful actually. To be quite honest I forgot all about it. I went to class and worked out. When I came home my parents wished me a happy birthday. For some odd reason I thought my birthday was the next week.

Oh well.

I had cake.

Other than that it was a normal day.

What a mess!

I have been watching events unfold in New Orleans for the past few days now. It's quite frustrating to sit here in West Virginia and not do anything. I don't believe sending money is enough. I wish I could just leave and go help with the evacuation or anything for that matter.

I'm probably going to watch everything continue throughout the weekend. The National Guard has orders to shoot to kill in the city. I guess that's what happens when the Mayor of New Orleans gets the bright idea to releas prisoners from their cells.
