Friends, Family and Focus…

It was a great weekend. Friday I signed the papers on a condo. It has a garage and a basement. I’m happy about this because now I can bring all of my belongings that are in storage under one roof. There is so much I have to sort and go through. My first goal is to sort through all of my dad’s tools. That is going to be a massive undertaking because he had a LOT of tools. My second goal is to go organize. There were a lot of boxes that were hastily packed. I’m willing to guess that I will probably throw away two thirds of what I have in storage. Now to prepare for the big move.

Saturday I spent with family. My cousin Sharon and her family had a pig roast. I went over to her place and went swimming and then indulged in some roast beast!

After the pig roast I went to visit some friends in Amherst. We hung out on their screened in porch and talked for hours. It was great to catch up with them. They invited me to church with them Sunday and I was more than happy to go.

Sunday we went to church together and had lunch afterwards. My friends support a missionary in Ghana and his daughter needed a laptop for college. We went to Best Buy and bought an affordable laptop that would meet her needs. I helped pick it out and I do believe we go a decent bang for the buck.

I finally saw Despicable Me. I had problems the first time I watched it and had to get a refund. I had problems the second time too. Everything was going fine until a group of tweeners entered the theater during the previews. They kept getting up and running around, talking and texting on their cell phones and speaking at normal voice levels. After asking politely to be quiet they just giggled and continued. I was not going to deal with that garbage a second time so I went out in the lobby to get an usher. To my delight there wasn’t an usher available but a police officer was. He was kind enough to walk into the theater with me and shine a flashlight in their faces and tell them to please not text or talk and be courteous to those around them. That fixed the problem. Despicable Me is a funny movie and once those kids quit talking and paid attention, they enjoyed the movie too. Don’t have a problem with the joyous sounds of kids and adults laughing and enjoying a movie. I actually find it cute when little kids ask perplexing questions about plot points. But when you decide to treat the theater like your own living room, we have a problem. I’ll say it again. I didn’t pay 10 bucks to have your commentary added to the movie experience or get distracted by your cell phone light.

I am the Movie Nazi. Ah yeah!

My evening ended with some laundry and an early bedtime. My plan is to get up early and head to the gym.

I Think It's Hot Outside...

There has been a nice trend the past couple nights regarding the weather. In the morning the weather is warm but not too bad. By noon the weather is hot and muggy and the temperature hovers around 100 degrees. In the evening the clouds roll in and it rains periodically through the night. It's wonderful to fall asleep to. It's supposed to do the same thing tonight.

I hate my gym. They close at 4pm on Fridays. Who does that?

I went and saw the Sorcerer's Apprentice today after work. It was a good matinee.

I don't know what to do tonight. Probably go to bed early. I made some calls to family and friends to see what they were doing. No one has called back. Oh well.

Something but Nothing...

Since moving back to Ohio I've been trying to get into some type of rhythm or routine. It's hard to do when you are living out of a couple boxes. Everything is thrown out of whack. I've been trying to get to the gym, develop sleep patterns, routine diet and some sense of comfort. Nothing is falling into place just yet.

I'm sure that once I find a place of my own I will be able to settle down more. I look forward to that. I'm a person who needs a routine and some structure or I get bent out of shape and I just stop. I'll just lay in bed all day because I'm so upset. It's not depression. It's frustration. I think I pout!

I've got a huge backlog of stuff I want to blog about. I don't have a lot of daily stuff. I've just been going to work and then going to bed. That's not a lot to blog about. I have been deep in thought. Hopefully this weekend I can post a few things that have been on my mind and heart. Moving back to Lorain County has stirred some emotions. Mostly good emotions. I grew up here and I have good memories.

I need to make time to visit family and let them know I'm home. It's just hard when you don't know which way is up at the moment.

I went to the gym this evening and did some cardio. I feel refreshed. I hope to get a good night sleep and enjoy my weekend.

A Very Long Update…

It’s been a busy and hectic week and a half. I’ve been traveling, moving and more traveling. I’m currently living out of a few boxes of essential stuff. Let me fill in what has happened over the last 10 or so days.

Thursday July 1
I was supposed to be out of my apartment by June 30th. I’m sure I’m going to get penalized for that. I can’t believe how much stuff I accumulated while I was in Pittsburgh. I was still two car loads away from being done so I packed up what I could and headed to Ohio. My plan was to drop off this load and drive back to Pittsburgh early in the morning to get the last of my things.

Friday July 2
I left Elyria around 5am and got into Pittsburgh a little after 7am. I loaded up the last of my things and then dropped off the keys to my apartment. I was pretty sad. I liked my apartment and the area where I lived. I didn’t want to go. But it was time to move on.
I went to my friend Josh’s apartment and hung out with him for most of the day. He needed me to do some voice over work for a project to be viewed at graduation. We completed that and then went back his place. I took a nap while he edited video. We made plans to see Avatar: The Last Airbender that evening.
A bunch of us went to see The Last Airbender. It’s a movie based on a cartoon that I found out is a cult favorite. I have never seen the cartoon and intentionally stayed away from it. I wanted to go into this movie with no prior knowledge of the plot or characters. I watched the movie and was intrigued by the overall story but M. Knight Shamalyn poorly directed this movie. The child actors he hired were horrible. I have more to say about The Last Airbender in a later post. I’ll save my review till then. My friends were outraged at how horrible the movie was. I would not know why until later when I decided to watch the cartoon for myself.

Saturday July 3
I drove back to Elyria in the mid afternoon. I got into town in the evening. All that traveling is exhausting. I got to Carrie and Steven’s and went to sleep. Not much going on Saturday.

Sunday July 4
I had every intention of going to church in the morning but I was totally exhausted. I didn’t wake up till noon. I had set my alarm and I don’t remember turning it off. That’s tired!
I went to a friends house for a 4th of July picnic. I got to catch up with them and it was a good visit. We went swimming and ate some good food. A nice relaxing day.

Monday July 5
This was a recuperation day too. No driving. No going anywhere. I lounged around and rested. I had a busy day ahead of me tomorrow. I did take time to revise one of my portfolio pieces. It was my weakest piece and I had an interview the next day. So I tinkered with that piece for a few hours. I got it to acceptable levels and went to sleep.

Tuesday July 6
I had my interview at 9am. It lasted about two hours. I am happy to say that I was hired. I now have a job as a web designer. Yay! I made some calls to family and friends to tell them the good news. I am officially back in Lorain County. I have thoughts and feelings on that and I will share them in a later post.
After the interview I hopped in my car and headed back to Pittsburgh. I graduate the next day. Plus I wanted to take part one last time in a ritual that me and some friends started. It would be my last Taco Tuesday at Don Pablos. I had a lot of fun but it was sad. We all hugged and said our goodbyes. I plan on going back to visit but it will probably be on weekends. So my Taco Tuesday time is done. Bummer.

Wednesday July 7
I graduated today! I now have a degree in Multimedia Design. My graduation ceremony was wonderful. There was no valedictorian speaker, no guest speaker, no long drawn out band or other gobbledee-gook that bogs down graduations into unbearable torture. It was short, sweet and to the point. Just how I wanted it.
John and Barb came to my graduation. I’m glad they came. We spent the day together and we got to catch up on so much. I miss them terribly. They miss my parents a lot. One day soon I want to spend the weekend with them. I need to go see my alpacas and my cats. We went to Applebees for dinner and then parted ways. I left Pittsburgh and headed back to Elyria with a heavy heart.

Thursday July 8
No rest for the weary. I had an orientation day at work. I familiarized myself with the office and it’s culture. Plus I started digging in to the programs and web content management system they use. I’m surprised at how quick I picked up some of it. I still have a lot to learn though. My head is swimming with information.
I got off work at 5pm. I went straight to bed when I got off work.

Friday July 9
I got to work bright and early. We only work half a day on Fridays. That’s cool! I was able to start settling in to Carrie and Steven’s basement and do some laundry.
We decided to see Despicable Me that night. That was a mistake. The cinema we went to attracts all kinds of riff-raff. I didn’t last 20 minutes before I asked for a refund and left. There was a woman who (I kid you not) talked on her cell phone for a good ten minutes. I went and got an usher and after I pointed the woman out he just said, “OK” and walk out of the theater. Nothing was done. So, if the ushers weren’t going to do anything, I wasn’t going to waste 10 bucks. I guess I’ll have to see it some other time. On the bright side, what I did see of the movie it looks funny.

Saturday July 10
Today I was able to go through my boxes and settle in. I hung up my clothes and finished my makeshift dresser. I went grocery shopping and cooked food almost all day. I joined a gym so now I can get back to working out. I’m completely lost if I don’t work out.
Later that night Carrie and Steven took me out to dinner for a welcome home celebration. We went to the Cheesecake Factory. Then we went to Barnes & Noble, which is a second home for me and hung out for a bit. We went and got ice cream too. I didn’t care for the place we went to. They scoop the ice cream out and place it on a table where they play with it for a few minutes, mixing in nuts and god only know what else and then serve it to you. I though it was unsanitary. So I got a smoothie. At least they wash out the blenders.
I got home and decided to check Netflix to see if I could watch Avatar: The Last Airbender online. I could. So I stayed up late and watched Book 1.

Sunday July 11
Steven and I went to church in the morning. It was nice to attend a worship service and not have to think about driving back somewhere. I was totally relaxed.
I went with Carrie and Steven to a ice cream social that benefited the Lorain County Historical Society. The tour through the historic home was pretty cool.
That evening we went to Chipotle and had one of their awesomely huge burritos. I love that place.
We got back home and I got back on Netflix to check out more Avatar. That’s what I did till 1am.

Monday July 12
I worked my first full day. I spent most of it learning the CMS system I will be using.

Tuesday July 13
Did the same thing as Monday except that I went to bible study and the gym. Got in bed around 1am. Probably not a good thing.

Wednesday July 14
Nope. Wasn't a good thing. I spent most of my day trying to stay awake. I made good strides in learning CMS.

Today
Working and then a nice nap! Oh I want a nap!

Now that I’ve got everything caught up on a macro level. I’ll start filling things on a micro level. I’m settled in enough to where I can sit on one place and blog again. You have no idea how much I enjoy that.

It’s the little things ☺
